Our two week Half Term has come and gone so quickly.

Our two week Half Term has come and gone so quickly.  I cannot now believe that it is only 51 days until Christmas!  What an exciting but scary thought.  Our time is therefore very precious and it is how we use this time that is so important.  I often use the quote ‘Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money, but you cannot get more time,’ by Jim Rohn.  I hope that everyone has enjoyed a well-earned rest and that we can reflect on the time we have had to re-charge our batteries in the knowledge that it has been well used.  Having already spoken to staff and students, it is lovely to hear that their time included travel to see friends and family – both locally and further afield.  I have also heard of many stories of time used to visit new places and experience new things which is equally important.

Just before we broke up for the holiday, our students’ good use of time was evident in abundance – particularly in music.  We are extremely fortunate at Invicta to have under the superb guidance of our Choir Master, Mr Heaton, a choir of over 200 students.  To sit back and watch how our students dedicate their time to the choir is an absolute honour and it is even more satisfying when you listen to them. This, along with seeing the musical talents of our students at our Newcomer’s Musical Evening before Half Term, is testament to the fact that so many of our students use their time for a whole host of different things – music being a very important one and something that I support whole heartedly.  To see our students celebrate their talents by sharing them with friends and family for the evening was delightful.  Mr Riley, Director of Music, and Mr Heaton really do a superb job in encouraging the musical talents of our students – everything from absolute beginner to the more advanced musician.  The confidence and enjoyment that exudes from such performances is great to witness.  But like all good students, they like a reward!  I cannot wait to see the photographs from the Choir Reward Trip to Thorpe Park that took place on the last day of term – our way of saying ‘Well Done and Thank You’ for giving up lunchtimes and evenings for rehearsals.  However, it does not stop there – next week, we have the Autumn Concert, on the 4 December, our choir will perform at Maidstone Museum and on the 11 December we have our annual Carol Service.  I shall look forward to hearing the rehearsals as they resonate throughout the school throughout our next 35 days of term!  As Charles Darwin said, “If I had my life to live over again, I would have made a rule to read some poetry and listen to some music at least once every week.” Something, I would like all our students to dedicate time to.
