Welcome to a new academic year! I am sure that we have a mix of emotions at the moment – looking back to last week and relaying the fact that we did not have to rely on our alarm clocks and then in contrast, feeling excited about the new academic year. There is no doubt that the pandemic will inevitably create some anxiety, but I hope that equally, the time that a significant number of our students have not been in school, will mean that they are genuinely looking forwards to seeing their friends or indeed, making new friends.
A new academic year is naturally associated with all things ‘new’. Our students will have new uniform, new stationery, new shoes, new bags and upon arrival to school; they will undoubtedly make new friends, meet new teachers and enjoy new challenges as they embark upon new subjects and new curricula. So, it is pertinent at this point to think about the importance of preparation.
This year, like no other, we have to be even more prepared. We will look back in years to come on the way in which we have had to embrace one-way systems, face coverings, new routines of social distancing, along with very different routines and procedures across our whole school. We are collectively making history! In ten years’ time, we will certainly discuss the different ways we approached COVID – 19. It is therefore important that we make 2020 – 2021 a year to remember - not just for COVID, but for what we can collectively achieve.
To ‘get to grips’ with all these new things, we must ‘get going’ because after all, the secret of getting ahead is getting started! I am sure that our students and staff will relish this opportunity with their usual energy and enthusiasm. I shall look forward to sharing the outcomes of this with you throughout the course of this year. Please do look at our newsletters, website and social media to stay in touch!
