Ski Trip
Olivia in 8C sent this report:
On Saturday, 28 December, a group of 38 Invicta students were raring to go on the Ski Trip to Courmayeur Italy. Once the suitcases were in the hold of the coach we were on the road for an overnight trip. Before we knew it we were there, surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Italy. Within an hour of arriving, we were fitting our ski boots and could not wait until the Monday so we could get up the mountain and start skiing. That time finally arrived and although the day was hard work, it was very enjoyable. At 9.30am, we met with our instructors and were split into 6 groups depending on our ski level. I was group 6 and throughout the week we skied almost all of the pistes and went up to the top. Courmayeur has a wide range of slopes, which means there is something for everyone and the snow there is super soft. Every single day groups would learn something new and improve their technique. Although all were good I would say group 6’s favourite run was gabba, a wide red slope, however my personal favourite was the black bump run and although a few of us did fall we all felt proud of ourselves after completing it!
One highlight of the week was when we had the most delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows, sprinkles and cream from chez croux after having the worst, with gone off milk! As well as a packed day skiing, we also had après-ski activities every night. This included crêpes, pizza, games, ice-skating and awards night. My favourite was the ice-skating but they were all really enjoyable. During dinner we would make nominations for skier of the day (someone who did well) and dipstick of the day (someone who did something funny/silly). The sort of things people would win dipstick for was, falling off the chairlift, crashing into a tree, skiing off the opposite way from the instructor, bumping into people - all things that really happened. Skier of the day nominations were awarded for helping someone who was injured, improving after having a rough day before and many other creditable acts.
Sadly, before we knew it, it was the end of the week and all of us were reluctantly packing our bags ready to go home, although we were ready to see our parents and families. Again, the journey back was overnight so it went quite quickly and within 14 hours, we were home again. The ski trip is such a fun trip and I would certainly recommend it.
Thank you to Mrs Marshall for organising the trip and to Mr Ehren, Mrs Harris-Tanzer, Miss Bolton and Mrs Smart for giving up part of their holiday to join us!
