STEM at Work Trip
Adeana in 9S sent this report:
On Monday, 16 December, a group of 13 Year 9 students visited Canterbury Christchurch University for a day of STEM related activities. We arrived at school for 8.15am to travel there. The first workshop was ‘BLOOD…using Maths to solve Crime’ where we learnt about how forensic scientists can piece together crime scenes using the dimensions of blood splatters. The workshop included us doing some calculations of our own and even going to a crime scene recreation. The second workshop was called ‘Wonder’ and was really interesting as it gave us new perspectives of everyday objects. It included some simple but fascinating experiments that acted as illusions and tricked our brains. Other workshops that we took part in were ‘Modern Medicines and their plant origins’, ‘Insects feel the Heat’ and others.
Overall, it was a very interesting day that gave us all an insight into careers in STEM, which we all enjoyed very much.
Thank you to Mr Rzepka for organising the trip and taking us there.
