Rebecca Adams -Women In Leadership
Name: Rebecca Adams
Role: Educator, Recruitment & HR Lead
Company/Organisation: The Chapel, Hairdressers
A bit about you: I have been in the hairdressing industry since I was 13 years old (30 years). I have a real passion for the industry and really care about leaving it in a better place than when I started. We can’t train the future of our industry the same way we were; we have to evolve, inspire, and care for the people around us.
Why did you decide to go into your chosen field? I loved being creative with hair colour and seeing how complementing someone's skin tone and eye colour can make them come alive and feel confident. I now have grown my own skills to recruit and educate the future. I believe the people you train should be better than you.
What qualifications and work experience did you need to reach your current position? Apprenticeship in hairdressing whilst in a salon environment. Training education courses on how to educate your team and skills. Recruitment education. HR courses and experience. A wealth of courses and colour degrees. Dedication and a lot of commitment.
What do you enjoy the most about your job? Inspiring others and watching them learn, make mistakes, and learn from them. Laughing and enjoying what you do is so important.
What obstacles have you overcome in your career? Learning that everyone is different and learns differently. You have to change and adapt, not them.
Why do you think it is important to have strong female representation in your industry? 100% because my industry is mainly made up of phenomenal, creative, and resilient women.
What advice would you give those wanting to take a similar career path? Turn up, say yes to everything and make plenty of mistakes so you can learn from them (it’s never failure).
Is there anything else you would like to add about your job or about Women In Leadership? Women multitask, we adapt, we grow, and we change. We need to stand together and celebrate each other’s wins more.
