Year 10 Geography Field Trip
Mr Moye sent this report:
To compliment their studies of the living world Year 10 geographers enjoyed a visit to Colchester zoo this week. This included a talk with interactive activities and time to explore the different ecosystems.
The visit facilitated deeper understanding of the following aspects of the current geography course including:
the interdependence of climate, water, soils, plants, animals and people; how plants and animals adapt to the physical conditions and issues related to biodiversity.
Many animals were out and about and luckily the rain held off. This is what some of the students said:
'I really enjoyed the talk programme because I learnt that each tropic level loses 10% of energy on average, movement of organisms generate heat, expelling water'
'During the talk programme we did many activities, the one I enjoyed the most was when we had a species of animal and created a food web by passing round string in the same format as a food web. I liked learning about bio accumulation when it causes a build up of a toxin in an organism over time.'
'Overall I liked walking around the zoo and taking pictures of different animals as well as reading information about them as we walked past'
