Year 7 Space Club - Mars Rover Egg Challenge
Mrs McGrath sent this report:
Our joint Space Club with SST has enjoyed a “Mars Rover Egg Challenge” over the last two sessions.
The challenge was to design and build an “Egg-stronaut” capsule that would allow a raw egg to survive a landing after being launched from the top floor of the main corridor at Invicta.
Students had to think about how to slow down the capsule’s descent from the top floor and how to cushion its impact once landed. This challenge was associated with the exciting landing of Nasa’s Perseverance Rover on Mars in 2021. Students had previously watched footage of its descent and landing on Mars and then planned how they would model this with their Mars egg capsule.
Most eggs managed to survive the landing which shows how well the students planned their design. Space Club takes place after school each week on a Tuesday from 3.30pm until 4.20pm in M17. All Year 7 students welcome.
