Extended Tutor Time - Friday, 19 March 2021
Continuing our commitment to international awareness and the impact of our choices on our planet, all students took part in an extended tutor time last Friday. Developed in conjunction with TED- Ed, students watched a film explaining the environmental impact fast and disposable fashion and how organic cotton is better for workers on the cotton farms and uses less scarce resources. They then joined an international forum to discuss their responses and find out about local initiatives. Following this the tutor groups made pledges to be more sustainable consumers. These included learning to repair and mend small tears and missing buttons, challenging themselves to buy less and when buying to look for higher quality and sustainable clothes to minimise their environmental impact. Finally, students suggested looking into the viability of running year group clothes exchanges once Covid restrictions are lifted.
