Mrs Marshall sent this report:
On Friday, 29 November, Mr Taylor and 13 Invicta girls eagerly and nervously greeted our exchange partners from GT College in Hong Kong. Time had flown by so quickly and their arrival day was finally here! The exchanges were full of welcoming smiles even though they must have had a very long day of travelling.
On Saturday, everyone spent the day with his or her hosts, experiencing family life with an English family and on Sunday, we all visited Leeds Castle for the Christmas Market. The students were impressed with the beautiful architecture of the castle and said it was so different to the Hong Kong skyscraper cityscape.
On Monday, the exchange students came to school. The exchanges were able to see what school was like in England by going to their hosts classes and experienced a WW1 History Lesson and a British Culture Workshop.
On Tuesday, we visited Ypres in Belgium for a Battle Field Tour including the WW1 Museum, Tynne Cot Cemetery and a visit to the Trenches.
On Wednesday, Mrs Hare accompanied the students to the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury where they watched ‘The Golden Goose’ and had a guided tour of Canterbury Cathedral. The pantomime was a new experience for many of the Hong Kong students and there was a great amount of shouting and laughing!
Thursday was an early start as we visited Harry Potter World in Elstree, London. It was intriguing to see the props and equipment used for the production of the films. The exchanges took many photographs of the Warner Brothers Studios as the work done for Harry Potter is very detailed and beautiful. Despite the long day students then joined Year 7 and Year 8 at All Saints’ Church in Maidstone for the Annual Carol Service.
During the last 3 days, students spent a full day as an Invicta Student and the final weekend experiencing family life in the United Kingdom. Some even enjoyed an early Christmas Dinner, as this is something most had never experienced before!
Before we knew it, departure day had arrived and our guests made a presentation to us and performed at the Closing Ceremony. We were extremely impressed by the media and how well everyone presented. They also gifted us some lovely presents from Hong Kong and Christmas cards and letters with heart-warming messages inside. Finally, we all enjoyed the ‘Stars in their Eyes’ RAG performance together before saying our final good byes. A great time was had by all, with new and exciting experiences for the Hong Kong students, and the creation of some lifelong friendships with such great memories.
