Year 5 Careers Workshop
On Tuesday 5 March 2019, a group of enthusiastic Year 5 students joined Mrs Rivers for a Careers Education Workshop. Whilst it is obviously too early for Year 5 students to be making job decisions for the future it is good to get students thinking about the skills of self-exploration and career-exploration in preparation for career decisions they will make as they move forward in their education. During the workshop, Year 5 students experienced the challenge of a psychometric test, the likes of which they might experience at interview. They worked in teams to fulfil the challenge and it certainly gave them food for thought! Time was spent analysing personal skills and matching these to jobs of interest. The students also completed a Family Tree activity encouraging them to find out more about the jobs of their nearest and dearest at home. Mrs Rivers encouraged Year 5 to complete this task at the dinner table that evening by asking their parents/carers about their jobs and finding out more about whether these jobs would be of interest to them in the future. It was interesting to hear about the jobs Year 5 think their parents/carers do and showed there was scope to certainly learn more!
