Wind Band
Directed by our musician in residence Mr Neumann, the Invicta Grammar School Wind Band meets every Thursday after school and has become one of the fastest growing ensemble in the department having been around for just over a year. The repertoire is varied and in the most recent concert the ensemble performed a 'Medley of Russian Folk songs’ and also collaborated with IGS Orchestra and year 9 House band in a rendition of George Ezra’s hit ’Shotgun’. Previous repertoire includes Vaughn-Williams’ ‘English Folk Suite’, ‘Raiders March’ (from Indiana Jones), and Prokofiev’s ‘Troika’, with this term’s pieces including the theme from ‘Mission Impossible’ and Mussorgsky’s ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’.
The IGS Wind Band is aimed at anyone who plays a wind, brass or percussion instrument and is open to all levels of ability. The ensemble combines the talents of the more senior and advanced players at Invicta with some who may have only just picked up an instrument and so allows a great diversity of players to make a fantastic sound together. Students are always encouraged to get involved, as it is a great environment for developing musicianship, performing and internalising inspiring music and sharing and enjoying in the experience with others
