Year 5 Familiarisation Workshop - Physics
On Saturday morning, 28 Year 5 students arrived at Invicta, ready to experience a highly interactive workshop looking at electrical power and its applications in society. This included an international focus referencing astronaut Tim Peake, who is currently on the International Space Station. Students undertook a number competitive and engaging challenges including electrical circuitry, Morse Code messages in light and sound, and investigating which fruits generated the highest electrical current.
To finish the students used LEDs to look at the direction of electrical flow, through squishy play dough models! All students enjoyed competing against each other and the tactile nature of the play dough. The Year 5 students impressed us with their knowledge and ability to solve problems independently. All these skills will hopefully see one of them on the International Space Station in 20 years’ time!
Thank you Mrs Booth and Mr Fulford who gave up their Saturday morning to work with the students
