Year 4 Science Workshop - Acids and Alkalis
On Monday, 24 September, 30 Year 4 students attened a full day Science workshop. The first half of the day was led by Dr Crouch, with the students experiencing a range of fun activities and demonstrations linked to the “Chemistry of Fireworks”. It certainly was an explosive start to the day and the girls seemed delighted when Dr Crouch ended the session with indoor fireworks! The second half of the day was led by Miss Puttock, with the focus shifting to Acids and Alkalis. The Year 4 students had the chance to make their own indicators using cabbage! This was a very messy process but the girls loved being able to investigate what colour their indicators changed to when added to Hydrochloric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide and water. This was followed up with the chance to test a range of household products (e.g. milk, lemonade and soap) with a range of very colour indicators. All the girls seemed to have a fantastic time with many proclaiming that they couldn’t wait to start Invicta in a few years’ time!
