Inter House Chess Tournament
Mr Hancock sent us this report:
“Last week, the inaugural Inter House Chess Tournament took place, with 16 contestants representing the eight Houses playing against each other. It was a straightforward knockout tournament and students from all of the 3 Key Stages were involved.
Eventually, by Thursday this had been whittled down to four. It was exciting to see that talent clearly lies within our Year 7 students, as all four contestants came from this year group. So to the final, a keenly fought contest between Jessica Reed representing Roddick and Madison Dews representing Colvin. A number of students came along to watch and cheer them on in silence, along with Deputy House Prefects and Form Tutors.
In the end, Madison triumphed and check-mated Jessica in convincing fashion and so was presented with a certificate and trophy by Mrs Giles, Deputy Head. Madison now has the honour of being able to declare herself the Invicta Grand Master Chess Champion for a year r. Well done to both finalists and indeed to all the students who took part."
