Year 10 students take part in Maths Challenge
On Tuesday, 4 March 2014, four Year 10 Invicta Grammar School students (Kerry, Sarah, Elina and Keri) competed in a mathematics competition hosted by The Judd School. Throughout the day there were five different rounds; these consisted of a variety of different challenges that are not usually covered in lessons. There were also teams from other schools, all competing to get first place so that they could get a place in the final. The 5 rounds were called “Comparisons”, “Name That Rule”, “Problem Solving”, “Hex (Base 6)”, and “Relay Race”. The round students enjoyed the most was the Relay Race which involved working in pairs to solve problems, where the answer was required from the previous question to answer the next. They liked this round because it used a range of mathematical skills, was different from the other rounds, and was fun. Overall, Invicta came 6th out of 14 teams. Mrs Sutch, who organised the trip to the competition, was very pleased with the result.
