Year 10 Careers Education Day
Year 10 returned from work experience week on Monday, 15 July 2019 and spent the day learning more about the world of work and the opportunities available to them through the Year 10 Careers Education Day. The day started with a review of their work experience week and students shared what they had learnt through presentations to one another. We were then joined by three guests who were invited in to tell Year 10 more about their options post 18. Rebekah from ASK told them all about degree and higher level apprenticeships and how to prepare for and find these amazing opportunities longer term. Dom visited us from Projects Abroad to open the eyes of our students to the option of taking a gap year and widening their life experiences. Whilst Max from the University of Surrey told the students all about life at university, giving guidance on why they should consider higher education and what to study. Year 10 left the day fully informed and with lots to think about moving forward. Careers interviews in Year 11 will help students to formulate their plans further. At the beginning of the day, when asked, over 50% of the year group reported that they enjoyed the workplace more than school – I wonder if they will still feel the same way in 10 – 20 years time!
