Year 8 History Trip
In order to help with Year 8’s studies of WWI in History, we went on a trip to Ypres in Belgium to see the several different types of memorials that are there. First, we went to the In Flanders Fields Museum and spent time looking at all the historical artefacts and sources there from the war. Later, time was given to the students to look around the town square where many bought Belgium chocolates and waffles.
After that, we went to the trenches that the soldiers fought in and were given time to experience what it was like to be in their position. Finally, we went to Tyne Cot Cemetery and looked at the gravestones of all those who fought for the Commonwealth. Most students said that their favourite part to the trip was exploring the trenches and tunnels that the WWI soldiers used during the war. All the Year 8’s and staff really enjoyed the trip and we definitely recommend it for any future Year 8 classes who are thinking about going.
