Autumn Concert
‘On Wednesday, 21 November the music department demonstrated the fantastic depth of musical talent the school has at the annual Autumn Concert. An audience of more than 575 packed out the school hall and were treated to an accomplished and memorable programme, which included an uplifting performance of I Will Wait from the year 11 house band, a stylish interpretation of Every Breath You Take from the guitar ensemble, the slick and punchy school Big Band with Get Happy and our new Wind Band with a wonderfully Christmassy rendition of Prokofiev's Troika. Once again, the school orchestra continued to reach new heights; the depth of talent on display was exceptional. Polovetsian Dances (Borodin) was assured and elegant, while the Sports Theme Medley raised many a smile in the capacity audience. The evening was finished in rousing fashion with the School choir, who once again proved themselves to be a superb and truly memorable ensemble, performing numbers including Cantar! (with the ever-energetic Samba Group) and the slick and theatrical Little Shop of Horrors. The finale – Fix You - brought both the orchestra and the choir together, in what proved to be a very special end to an excellent evening.
We would like to make special thanks to our incredibly generous audience who raised just over £930 (a record!). We have already allocated this money to buying new instruments for our ever-growing department, and many ensembles will benefit from this generosity. Our considerable shopping list includes new guitars, violins, and music stands - so thank you very much indeed!
Well done to all Invicta students – the music department truly is a special place!'
