Armistice 100 - Poetry Competition
Congratulations to Livvie in 10C, (below) collecting her award at the Armistice 100 Poetry Competition at the University of Lincoln. Livvie’s entry entitled ‘We’re all dead anyway’ can be read overleaf. The competition was judged by Carol Ann Duffy and Imtiaz Dharker, which was designed to commemorate the centenary of WWI. Congratulations also to Reilly, Thea, and Megan, all in 8A. Reilly, who were all shortlisted in their age category and Livvie came a very respectable 2nd place. Well done girls!
"We're all dead anyway"
Light eyes fade as we trudge through the trenches,
Slouched down, defeated, heads hang low,
No one knows what they're marching to,
no one proud in returning home,
But we're all dead anyway
Bitterness bites at the hollowed out faces,
drowned in the grief stricken sobs from distant nations,
Hide me in your happiest memories,
So that home is only a word and feeling is a lost emotion ,
But we're all dead anyway.
Shadows chase away any left light,
It's dark in the emptiness of our numb minds,
Feel through the cold of the blood drenched trenches,
Few soldiers left standing to answer the questions,
But we're all dead anyway.
Will them to remember the sacrifice of our lives,
Will them to pray for the grace of our time,
For when uniforms decay and rifles are buried
They're just human,
And we're all dead anyway.
