Invicta’s Interact received their charter from the Major of Maidstone in May 2014 at a prestigious ceremony held at the school. Interact is a younger branch of the Rotary Club. Rotary is an international organisation with over 1.2 million members worldwide that was founded in 1905. We work with members of the Maidstone Riverside Rotary Club during the school year, to help fundraise and they are incredibly supportive of the different events we put on.
The main aim of Interact is to work with the local community which has included raising over £2000 for charity fundraising; events have included a Burns Night, and a Murder Mystery Evening, they were great successes and, although hard work were really enjoyable to organize and done in conjunction with Young Chamber. However, this year we have decided to push ourselves a bit further and put on a few more events.
In December, we hosted a Christmas Bingo Night at Invicta, giving parents and friends of the school the opportunity to win a number of different prizes. In January we will joint host another, the Burns Night Supper. For this event we will again be working with Young Chamber, another club within the school.
The money from all of these events will be going towards this year’s chosen charities, War Child and Dementia UK.
The students have now started a Fair Trade shop which was piloted before half term and seems to be a real success with the student body.
Girls have been lucky enough to go on a leadership course supported by Rotary which added to their skills.
Due to our connection with the Rotary Club we have had links with other Interact clubs and last year we were the given opportunity to attend Rotary meetings, they also gave us the opportunity to do charity car parking and helping out at the County Show, last summer we raised over £1200 for our charity.
Our Junior Interact has run during the POP sessions and has raised a substantial amount of money through their hot chocolate and sweet sales. The business skills they have learnt will stand them in good stead for the senior Young Chamber in years to come.
We are always looking for new opportunities, so if you have any ideas please get in touch with Miss Pope.
