On Thursday 22 March the Music Department said a final farewell to the outgoing Director of Music, Mr Riley, with a spectacular Summer Concert. As usual, the school hall was packed out with parents, teachers, and an array of returning ex-students who enjoyed a typically high-quality array of varied and entertaining musical numbers. While the standard was consistently excellent, highlights included the Big Band with Herbie Hancock's Watermelon Man, the School Orchestra with Swingin' Safari, the Ukulele Ensemble with Titanium and the Vocal Harmony Group with Eric Whitacre's moving Seal Lullaby. The school choir finished the concert with great energy and polish, and were joined by the orchestra and Year 9 house band in a moving tribute to Mr Riley with Hello, Goodbye (The Beatles).
It was a memorable end to what has been another exceptional year in the Music Department. A huge well done to all the students involved! A particular mention should also go to Caitlin Browne, Megan Dobson, Marlie Harding, Molly Mutter, Sophie Thexton, Oluwasolape Tunde-Daude, Phoebe Wells, Hannah Whitenstall and Wantang Yang who received the much-deserved Music Department awards.
Thank you to Mr Heaton and Mr Riley for their hard work in preparing the students for the concert.
