Mrs Smart sent us this report:
Sports Day dawned bright and sunny which was a relief after last year’s washout. Year 7 and 8 started the day with athletics, competing in a variety of track and field events against the other houses. There were some fantastic races with very close finishes testing the timer’s skills. A new record was set in the Year 7 cross country event by Megan Ormiston from Austen House and the field events were very competitive. The relays saw nearly half of every tutor group fighting it out on the track with first place going to a team from Pankhurst in Year 7 and Frank in Year 8. Overall results are still to be announced.
In the afternoon, Year 7 and 8 played their rounders matches whilst Year 9 and 10, having had an exciting morning of rounders, made their way to the athletic events. Again we had some exciting competitions and two new records. Both Millie Morris and Charlotte Young from Frank beat the old Year 9 cross country record with Charlotte overall winner. Molly Green from 10A also set a new time in the cross country taking 15 seconds off the previous record.
Year 12 had a combination of rounders and bench ball competitions throughout the day. Sports Day ended with a combination of Sixth Form and staff relays which really entertaining the crowd. The barbeque, music, face painting, support and fund raising all contributed to a fantastic day. Thanks must go to the Year 11 students who came back into school, after their exams to umpire all of the rounders so proficiently. Thank you also to the staff for their help timing, scoring, judging and measuring all day.
The only question remaining is WHO WILL THE WINNERS BE???
