Geographers go Pond Dipping
Samantha and Millie in 9V sent us this report:
We are currently learning about ecosystems, so on Tuesday during a Geography lesson, Miss Dixon took our class to Vinters Valley Nature Reserve, to try our hand at pond dipping. We learnt about different forms of wildlife, and saw a variety of species in and around the pond. These included a few ducks, along with their ducklings, a swan, lots of dragonflies, a heron, geese, coots, some water boatmen and even leeches. Additionally, we observed numerous human features and their effects on the small ecosystem. We read all the notices on the information board and realised how important this information is. We now have a clear understanding about producers and consumers in the food chain.
We had a great lesson at the pond and enjoyed learning about the area; we even had time to feed the ducks with special food! Thank you Miss Dixon who is our Lead Teacher of Geography.
