Invicta Music Concert
Mr Riley sent us the following report:
“The Auditorium was the ideal venue for Thursday evening’s Informal Concert. With hardly a spare seat to be had, the enthusiastic audience enjoyed a varied programme – organised by Mr Riley - lasting some 80 minutes. Ranging from the High Baroque - a movement from Telemann’s Concerto for two Treble Recorders, played with elegance and grace by Ruth Thursby and Maia Jones, through a selection of piano solos (most notably an exquisite rendition of Chopin’s C sharp minor Nocturne by Annie Yang), the Wind Ensemble playing the theme from Chariots of Fire, a world premiere (Bob Saudles’ Double Trouble for two Double Basses – with Annie Yang and Rachel Ho), to the Year 12 House Band’s rousing, concluding Seven Nation Army. Jasmine Brown’s Harlem Nocturne (for Alto Saxophone) was particularly effective and it was good to hear the Chamber Choir in such fine collective voice in Cy Coleman’s classic Rhythm of Life. Sarah Vincent came to the fore (with the Invicta String Quartet) in British songs by Whitlock and Sullivan. It was also a pleasure to welcome David Fletcher to the concert platform as Harpsichordist and as Clarinettist.
Congratulations and thanks to all our performers for making the evening so enjoyable and worthwhile.
The retiring collection raised over £106 for the Music Instrument Fund.”
Thank you yet again to Mr Riley and Mr Heaton for their superb work with the musical members of the Invicta Community!
