Kent Young Chef News - Charlotte Fife
Charlotte Fife in Year 9, was one of many students who entered the Kent Young Chef Competition 2016. She was selected along with seven others to compete in the final. Four of the students were in the Junior Category, but as Charlotte was just old enough, by a few weeks, she made it into the Secondary Category, competing against three boys.
Miss Sibley sent this report:
“I was lucky enough to be able to go along to support Charlotte in the competition at Mid Kent College. Although I could only watch on a live feed of the kitchen, it was a brilliant experience to watch Charlotte cook.
Charlotte’s brief was to make a local, seasonal dish, using fresh ingredients from a local farm Charlotte developed a duck dish with plumbs, baby potatoes, seasonal vegetables and homemade bread.
The chef judges were very impressed with Charlotte’s practical skills and raw talent, when designing and cooking the dish. They said she had just missed first place to a boy who had competed for the past three years. The judges also commented that many of their trainee chefs would take many years to develop such a dish. So Charlotte did Invicta very proud and I truly believe she is in with a very good chance of winning when she enters again next year…watch this space.

It was an absolute pleasure watching Charlotte hold her own in a catering kitchen, while competing against a kitchen full of boys. What a fantastic opportunity for Charlotte, well done!”
