GT College from Hong Kong visit Invicta
Visit from Hong Kong School – Tuesday, 8 November 2016
We were delighted to host a visit from GT College, a secondary school for gifted and talented students in Hong Kong. Mr Roger Cheng, Further Studies Officer, and Mr Joe Cheung, International Exchange Officer, were accompanied by five Year 9 and Year 10 ambassador students, Christie, Carmen, Jason, Dixon and Tony. GT College is amongst the most successful secondary schools in Hong Kong for gifted and talented students. The school attaches great importance on academic achievements and enrichment opportunities for their students. Mr Cheng and Mr Cheung were on a mission to exchange good practice with the best schools in England. The group chose to visit Invicta Grammar School, Dartford Grammar School and the Sevenoaks School.
Mr Cheng commented: "We have heard of many good things about Invicta from the other side of the world and we are very excited to be here to see with our own eyes how the school is run and how wonderful the students are." The GT College ambassador students spent two lessons with five Invicta Year 11 students, Amelia Cox, Scarlet Taylor, Amelia Jones, Georgina Speight and Francesca Whetstone, who are "the best hosts ever", according to the Hong Kong students. Our visitors presented an exciting and dynamic introduction of their school and treated Invicta students to a short performance showcasing their talents in singing, dancing, martial art and even magic tricks! The group had a chuckle when Mrs Bui asked them if they had exchanged their email addresses. Come on, Mrs Bui, who would email nowadays? The students exchanged their Instagram and Snapchat instead!
Mrs Derrick was delighted to notice the similarity between the two schools, "It is illuminating to learn that a school from the other side of the world, shares our belief in nurturing our young people and preparing them to take on the world. It was not a coincidence that our host students and the Hong Kong guests got on so well and found it hard to say good bye after only a few hours spent together. I firmly believe that these young people will be leading the world! "
Invicta and GT College both look forward to working partnership, with a possible exchange trip for Invicta students in the future.
Thank you to members of staff who gave up their time to welcome our visitors.
