Mini UN Conference - The First Meeting.
Emily Read and Rhiannon Thomas in Year 13 sent us the following report:
“On Wednesday, 4 October we held our first meeting with students from Aylesford, Lunsford, Loose and Offham primary schools, who will be taking part in Invicta’s Mock UN Conference in February 2017.
To start off the afternoon, Miss Laming and Mrs Ricks gave a brief introduction into what the United Nations is and what it entails. The students then discussed with each other and with Invicta students about what the UN does and what its goals are. The primary school students were split into groups and they randomly selected a country to represent. These countries included; China, Russia, the USA, Brazil, India, Iran, France, Australia and South Africa. These countries will represent a wide variety of cultures, languages and continents. The theme for the conference this year is “Life Below Water”.
Invicta’s UN Mock Conference was established in order to get young people interested and involved in current affairs and important issues that affect us all. It encourages students to develop their debating skills and become interested in the world around them. Overall, the planning for the conference got off to a strong start and is sure to be a successful affair. “
Thank you to Mrs Ricks and Miss Laming for their continued hard work on this project.
