"Take Away" at the Marlow Theatre
Twenty Invicta students participated in the National Youth Theatre Connections project as actresses and directors. They performed the play 'Take Away', written by Jackie Kay at the Marlowe Theatre on Thursday, 12 May, to an audience of parents, directors, theatre goers and other performers on the project. One student said "It is an incredible experience; you make friendships with people across all the year groups that you would not otherwise make. It is a lot of hard work and takes commitment and dedication to the play and the rest of the cast, but I guarantee it is 100% worth it."
Directing the play alongside Miss Parker, Invicta students Chloe Palmer and Emily Cox worked closely with the technical team at the Marlowe, who deemed both students as "knowledgeable and passionate" about theatre - so much so that they initially thought they were teachers themselves!
Another student commented: "Personally I believe that the feeling of satisfaction you feel when you can say 'We did it' at the end of the production is amazing, and nothing compares. Of course, we couldn't have done it without the help and direction of Chloe, Emily and Miss Parker and I know that the whole cast is very thankful for the patience they have had with us. I recommend the project to everyone and anyone, whether you have previously done Drama or not; take the opportunity with both hands and give it all you've got."
The whole team did the school proud, and the comments and congratulation e-mails we have received have make the effort and commitment worthwhile. Well done to every one involved.
