Ski Trip to Italy - 2016
The Invicta Ski Trip to Courmayeur, Italy took place over the Easter holidays. 40 students and 7 members of staff travelled by coach to the resort. Our accommodation was in the now familiar Telecabine Hotel, our third visit since 2012! Over a third of the students had been on a previous Invicta Ski Trip which, together with the 16 students who had participated in the 10 week course of dry slope lessons at Chatham before the trip, meant that the majority of the group were experienced skiers. This allowed them to take advantage of the extra skiing offered after lessons and ski with friends in different ability groups.
There was a varied après ski program including a karaoke night, pizza evening, disco and ice skating.
Highlights of the week included two advanced groups, a total of 16 people, skiing down a black run on the first day in foggy conditions. It was only just possible to see the person in front but the whole group skied well from top to bottom without stopping or falling. Not being able to see the steepness of the slope was a definite advantage.
Another highlight on the last day was the human slalom down the red run ‘Gaba’. There must have been over 50 people, mostly Invicta staff and students who joined together from their different ability groups. The sun shone, the piste was empty, the snow conditions fantastic: what a sight! Everyone made such good progress in their skiing but congratulations to all our skiers of the day, Rianna Pearce, Alex Sykes, Sophie Gold, Maria Bragin, Katie Mason and Molly Gache.
Thank you to Mrs Robertson and Mr Velk for making this such an enjoyable and fun visit. We are already looking forward to next year’s adventure.
