Year 6 Transition Workshop - Science
On Thursday, 17 March 25 Year 6 students attended Invicta for a Transition Science Workshop.
The focus was on combustion and students learnt all about the science behind fire and how this science is applied to fire extinguishers. They watched various practical demonstrations to enable them to understand what is produced during a combustion reaction and help them to prepare for their own experiments. Finally the students were taught how to use a Bunsen Burner and carry out flame tests on various metal ion solutions. The students had a fantastic time learning new techniques and identifying the metal ions by their brightly coloured flames. By the end of the session all student were extremely confident and able to work safely carrying out experiments using Bunsen Burners.
Thank you to Mrs Payne from the Science Department for such an interesting workshop.
