STEM Family Challenge
On Monday Evening 15 March 2016, 19 teams competed against each other in the annual STEM Family Challenge.
Phill Lennard, a STEM Ambassador launched the 90 minute competition to see which family team could build the most successful crane, capable of lifting a model car. An impressive range of structures were assembled by the tight time deadline. The designs were varied and were judged fairly by Mr Fulford, who was looking for evidence of mobility, 'overhang' and above all the ability to life the car without falling over. Three teams were shortlisted and the eventual winner was Juliette Price from Year 7 with a stunning design which featured mobile counterbalances and a system of pulleys to life the car safely.
Families were also treated to a display of what STEM careers may look like in the future and how we can help prepare students for these careers.
We look forward to watching the engineers of the future develop as they grow through the school.
Thank you to Mr Fulford, Ms Laxton and the STEM team for their hard work in organising this and many other events during STEM Month. Our students have been given fantastic opportunities to develop their STEM skills and experience what STEM employment can offer.
