Year 5 Primary Maths Workshop
There was an excellent atmosphere on Tuesday evening in the Orchard Building as over 50 Year 5 students participated in the Mathematics Primary Workshop. Eager to impress, the Year 5 students tackled some challenging problems involving square numbers, money, time and angles in a relay format. All questions were real life problems that stretched the students and they demonstrated that they were capable of applying what they knew in unfamiliar contexts. All the students impressed with their effort. Grace Gondo and Emma Bose from Sandling School made the most progress on the Relay Race although the competition was close with students dashing to Ms Stoneham and Mr Salsbury for the next question. The students all enjoyed the workshop and the satisfaction that comes with solving a difficult problem that they had been focused on.
Thank you to the staff of the Mathematics Department Mrs Stoneham, Mrs Pink, Mr Millgate, Mr Salsbury, Miss Derrick and Mr Coker who ran the workshop. Thank you also to Ms Johnson, Miss Davies and Miss Palmer who liaised with the primary schools and to Mrs Sutch, Lead Teacher of Mathematics who organised the resources used on the day.
