Invicta Debating Competition
Wednesday saw the first major debating competition of the year with students from Lower and Upper schools competing. The motions were very well argued and it was a very close contest. The judges, after much deliberation decided on the following worthy winners:
Jessica Wathan, Megan Garland and Lucy Hooker from Year 8 who won the Lower School Competition after debating the following motions: “This house believes that students should have to follow a narrow core curriculum” and “This house believes that a new runway at Heathrow or Gatwick is unnecessary.”
Summer Heron, Konrad Eke, Laura Hooker, Harriet McConnell and Freya Wentzel who won the Upper School Competition after debating the following motions: “This house believes in Euthanasia” and “Learning and Technology – BIG DATA is something to be feared?”
Thank you to our expert panel of judges; Dr White Mr Perry, Sophie Aujard and Charlotte Williams. Thank you to Eden Glazebrook, who was the timekeeper. We would also like to thank Mrs Rush for all her hard work behind the scenes and of course Mrs Lloyd, who oversees all the speaking and debating competitions at Invicta.
