Year 5 Primary Workshop - Dance
On Tuesday, 19 January, 50 primary school students joined us for a Year 5 Dance workshop. The workshop was based on the five basic body actions; Turn, Jump, Step, Gesture and Pause. Students joined in a fun warm up whereby they had to explore each of these body actions and then create the shapes of letters using their bodies.
The students then learnt a short dance phrase, using all these actions and in small groups added their own choreographic ideas. Our Year 12 Dance prefect, Jessica Lerwill assisted each group with suggestions and ideas to improve their dances. The students did really well and Mrs White, Lead Teacher of Dance was very impressed with their creativity; turns, rolls, cartwheels, leap frogs and even lifts. Each group had a chance to perform their work before being awarded a certificate.
Mrs White said “I hope the students will remember what they have learnt and go back and share it with their schools, as they all did a great job!”
Well done to the Year 5 students and our Dance prefects. Thank you Mrs White for delivering the workshop.
