Year 9 Visit Local Companies
On Wednesday, 25 November, Year 9 students were given the opportunity to visit various business around the Maidstone area, to gain valuable insight and experience in the world of work. Each tutor group visited a different business, including the Hilton Hotel, ASB Law, David Lloyd, Guildhall Museum, The Pepenbury Charity and Leeds Castle.
9A visited the Hilton Hotel, where they were introduced to the HR Manager who spoke to them about the many benefits of working in the hospitality industry including travelling to countries all over the world and using the fantastic gym facilities! Students were less impressed with the long, unsociable hours however. They also met the General Manager, learnt about the 100 year history of the hotel and had a tour of the facilities.
Elsewhere, after a very informative presentation regarding Leeds Castle as a business (where we learnt that the fireworks cost £1000 per minute to run!), the girls from 9V spent an afternoon exploring the grounds and the castle. They learnt about the many ways the business attracts its visitors. In particular they seemed to enjoy the maze, where a few relied on the teamwork to get to the middle.
Meanwhile, 9C's visit to ASB Law at Eclipse Park allowed them to hear from an ex-Invicta student, Francesca, about her experiences and the different routes into the law profession. They also enjoyed a talk from Kelly, who works in the HR department, about recruitment. This part of the afternoon included discussions about the importance of first impressions - some of the girls have admitted they may need to reconsider their email addresses and social media profiles before they begin applying for any jobs! All in all, the girls found the afternoon very informative.
A special thank you to Mrs Liddicoat, our Intermediate School Administrator who organised these visits and the Year 10 University visit that occurred on the same day. Your hard work is very much appreciated.
