Year 5 Students attend a Geography Workshop
On Monday, 21 September, Year 5 students from a number of local primary schools arrived at Invicta to experience a day of Geography fieldwork. The aim of the day was to enhance student’s awareness of geographical fieldwork skills by linking maps and photographs, following a map and increasing their knowledge of Invicta's school environment. They spent the morning collecting primary data in small groups and then used geographical skills to plot this data onto maps to create an information hand out of Invicta's grounds. They learnt how to conduct field work, including skills such as bi-polar analysis and used scoring systems to find their ideal location to have lunch. Students were able to use this data to produce graphs, enhance their ICT skills and justify their decisions on the best picnic sites within Invicta's school grounds. By the end of the day all students had familiarised themselves with the layout of Invicta and were confident in finding their way around, as well as making some new friends.
Thank you to Miss Dixon, Mrs Bennett and Miss Pope from the Geography Department who organised this fun and interesting workshop.
