Bee Keeping Club
The Invicta Beekeepers meet on Friday after school. Each week, they don their bee suits, light the smoker and check the school hive. They make sure that the bees and their brood are healthy, that the queen is present, and that they have enough room. Students will also check that the bees are making honey, which is an important food for them and for us. Sadly, there wasn’t honey this spring, but the beekeepers hope to have a harvest in August /September time. Currently, we just have one hive on the school site but we are hoping to expand in the near future. The club is always on the lookout for new members to come along and learn about honey bees and other species of bees. Beekeeping is a skill that can be used as part of a Duke of Edinburgh qualification and many older beekeepers learned their skill at school.
