Year 5 Transition Workshops - DT and Maths
Students from local primary schools attended two Year 5 Transition Workshops run by our Design Technology and Mathematics Departments, on Thursday, 24 April.
In the DT session, the girls were given the task to design and then build Invicta's highest, strongest tower. They were given some unconventional building materials; marshmallows and spaghetti to construct their tower and 30 minutes to work as a team to make the structure. Different teams adopted different approaches with varying success but all involved were definitely enjoying the challenge. The majority of teams managed to make a free standing tower by the end of the allotted time.
We were very impressed with their creativity. Well done to all involved and thank you to Miss West who ran the workshop.
In the Maths session, the girls worked equally hard, completing their tasks with enthusiasm. They were looking forward to taking their new skills in mathematics back to their primary schools, to share with their classmates.
We were very impressed with the way they were able to apply their new mathematical knowledge to the given tasks Well done to all involved and thank you to Miss Thavabalasingam who ran the workshop.
