The Year 7 Spellathon
The Spellathon was very well attended by Year 7 students who came to support their tutor group competitors. The girls who took part were extremely skilled in their spelling ability and it was remarkable to see so many students who could spell accurately without writing anything down at all and under timed conditions! They were an absolute credit to the school and to their English teachers. Members of the Sixth Form: Chloe Shaw, Amy Buckle and Charina Sullivan administered the competition watched by many Year 7 supporters, Miss Harris (Head of Year 7) and the English Department. The event was held in the new Reading Room which proved that it was purpose built for such a competition. The supporters and teachers were encouraging and the competitors were gracious and keen to perform well.
First place went to Elise McIntyre 7I with Katie Hutson 7A in second place. In joint third place were: Lilly Ebsworth and Erin Cocker from 7N and Erin Frankel 7T – the girls will receive house rewards and some delightful prizes from the English Department!
We would like to thank all of the girls who attended for their competitive and encouraging approach.
