Debating Matters Competition
Mrs Lloyd and Mrs Shepherd-Miller took a group of 6th form students to London on Monday, 10 March for the London Inner Regional Round of the National Debating Matters Competition. They had a superb day at the beautiful and rather grand Tallow Chandlers Hall, where the group competed against two other schools in the first round. These were tough and very close debates. The Invicta team were delighted to win both of these debates, which put them into the final. Here, their opponents were the top calibre Queens School, from Watford. After an extreme knife edged verbal combat, Invicta were very pleased when the judges awarded them the debate!
Invicta is therefore, through to the National Final! This will take place over three days in June at the British Library. The school has won £500 of educational resources from Hodder and Stoughton and the team, a tour of St Paul's Cathedral and tea at the 5* Grange St Pauls Hotel. Needless to say the team and staff are delighted with the result. Well done to our debaters Kate, Suzanna, Munira and Charlotte. Congratulations also Iris and Katie who were highly commended for their questioning from the floor.
