Year 5 History Workshop
On 25 February, the History Department welcomed over 40 Year 5 students from local primary schools to take part in a History workshop on the slave trade. The sessions were led by Mr Saputo and Miss West and were assisted by our prefects for History: Emily and Ben in Year 13 and Katherine in Year 12. The girls were able to practise their evidence skills by examining some primary sources on the slave trade. They had to work together in teams to reconstruct the story of the slave trade, using only visual evidence and clues provided. The Year 5 students showed real detective skills in this exercise! The girls also completed a team challenge where they constructed models showing how the slave trade operated using only paper, string, glue, sticky labels and chairs. They created some really imaginative solutions using very limited materials and time. We very impressed by their teamwork and thinking skills. Well done to all involved.
