POP Elective - Student Review
During Term 1, all students took part in the first rotation of POP Elective. Daniela in 7N sent this report after her involvement in the Duke of York programme with Mr Ehren.
I remember back in September when I had just joined Invicta Grammar, I was excited for my first ever POP (Personal Opportunities Program) session. I was allocated the IDEA Duke of York group and I have learnt so much in my short 6 week journey.
On my first day, I was welcomed by Mr Ehren and we set up our accounts on the computers. It was really easy and quick so we got onto the tasks quickly. The Duke of York Awards are split into sections, each with their own subject for you to learn. The sections are named Citizen, Worker, Maker and Entrepreneur. They each teach us the skills of coding, programming, online safety and teamwork. After each section, the application asks you one question relating to the subject you have just learnt. It is really interesting, challenging, fun and useful!
The Duke of York Award helps you with hints and you can restart the section if you really need help with the subject. However, you could always ask your teacher for support. I would recommend this POP to KS3 as it is just right level so everyone can understand it. It also teaches you a lot of different things that would be helpful to those years specifically and life skills to take forwards as well.
At the moment there is only bronze and silver awards possible to complete, however the IDEA team are working on a gold award that will be available soon.
Lots of people would agree with me that the Duke of York has been an amazing experience, one that we will definitely take advantage of, if not in school then later in life.
