Duke of Edinburgh
Hello to everyone who is reading this, I'm Maria and I am a currently in Year 10. Not long ago, I had the amazing opportunity to become a Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) ambassador for our school. Last year, I completed my DofE Bronze Award despite being in the pandemic; however, there were some changes and alternations I had to make to my physical section. As all sports and clubs shut down during the pandemic, it meant I could not attend my tennis lesson I would usually do for my DofE. This meant that I had to adapt to what equipment and resources I had available at home; doing various weekly challenges set by my club, tennis strategy training and volley work. Everyone managed to persevere in their own way and carried on despite how challenging times were for everyone, and I hope this will continue for all students doing Bronze, Silver and Gold this year.
After finishing my Bronze DofE, I am now doing my Silver. It's the next step of this exciting, skills-developing journey. For my physical section, I have chosen something I can do both at home or at a gym which is a convenient way to ensure that I have something to do both outside and at home if needed. I have decided to try and develop my culinary skills and expand on the dishes we cook at home (you can join with a family member to make it more fun) and for volunteering I enjoy being a DofE Ambassador and helping others with any concerns they have . I hope that everyone develops new skills to expand their knowledge and know that the perseverance and determination you are developing in the current climate are very important skills for life, so do your best!
As a DofE Ambassador I'm here to help students completing their awards who are struggling to find ways to carry on with their sections or if they need of any DofE help or advice. Please also check out the DofE website to give you ideas for activities you can complete under the current restrictions and help as well.
