Mrs Rivers sent this report:
Last week you will have seen my article promoting the successes our students have had in applying for and engaging with the virtual work experience opportunities through the Speakers for Schools opportunities. It has been so good to hear from students who have engaged with these and the skills and experience they are developing as a result. As we find ourselves becoming more used to working and studying in a virtual world I know employers will be looking for young people in the future who have taken advantage of the virtual opportunities which are now more widely available whilst we are in lockdown.
Springpod are another organisation currently promoting a range of virtual experiences to young people right now. There are some age restrictions on these but well worth checking them out. Many of the experiences are recorded so although they might be live during the school day, those who register for them can often access the recordings outside of lesson time. I have promoted new opportunities with Springpod to Years 10, 11, 12 & 13 this week via e.mail but students can also register to look at other opportunities via the link below:
For students interested in becoming a doctor, dentist or vet, building a strong portfolio of work experience is obviously one of the many keys to success in these fields! I would encourage anyone interested to sign up to the Medic Mentor website, via the link below:
The organisation is a non-profit national medical organisation focusing mainly the medical field but also offering free opportunities for virtual work experiences in veterinary medicine and dentistry for Years 10 – 13. Medic Mentor also offers a range of resources and activities that budding medics can research and get involved in. If you are a student interested in this field of work and have not already visited their site I would highly recommend it! I know lots of our students have already signed up and are developing a wealth of experiences which will only serve to improve their success when it comes to applying for medical school in Year 13!
