Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions
During the October half term, we had two expeditions take place, the Bronze Assessed Expedition for 35 Year 10 students and a Silver Practice Expedition for 37 Year 11 students. Despite the poor weather conditions our students all rose to the challenge ahead of them. The navigation skills demonstrated by all involved were exceptionally good and it was a fantastic demonstration of how resilient these students have been.
Across both expeditions students worked well to form cohesive groups, for the Bronze students these were formed only a month in advance of the expedition taking place. The students worked towards a variety of different aims over the course of the 2-day expedition ranging from landscape photography to a David Attenborough inspired nature documentary!
All those who took part in the Bronze expedition passed the section, actively contributing to their debrief at the end of the weekend to reflect on their experience. Smiles were on faces throughout and it will be an experience to remember!
The students who undertook the Silver practice expedition demonstrated particularly good campcraft skills and organisation around the campsite. It had been quite some time since their last expedition, and it was great to see that these skills had not been forgotten. From getting lost in apple orchards to wandering through a glowing field of pumpkins, they all persevered and have prepared themselves for their assessed expedition set to take place in April.
Well done to all the students who took part in these expeditions we are all enormously proud of what you have achieved!
