University of Kent - Final Visit
Miss Abbott sent this report:
Wednesday, 4 December saw the 4th and final visit to the University of Kent. 11 students have spent 3 sessions at the Medway Campus, learning about Sports Science and the different research fields/careers it can lead to. During the 3 sessions, students had to create their own research project, carry it out and then analyse all of their data (using some very difficult statistical analysis!). Students had to complete an abstract based on their individual projects, and write up the aims, methods, results and conclusions onto a very large dissertation style poster, ready to present to PHD students and University Lecturers. Students were asked numerous questions about their investigations, including the practical applications, any limitations they found with their experiment and how they would overcome them. They were marked on the clarity of their poster, their presentation skills, their ability to answer the questions and their professionalism. Out of 10 schools, Invicta were placed 3rd!
I am very proud of the 11 students who took part, their hard work and effort over the 3 sessions and their enthusiasm and professionalism throughout. It has been a fantastic opportunity for them, and hopefully we will be able to continue entering the competition on an annual basis.
