University of Kent Second Visit
Arabella in 10S and Amy in 10G sent this report:
Following on from our report in previous Invicta News, we would like to update you on our University of Kent research visit. On Wednesday, 6 November, 11 PE students visited Medway Park to carry out their experiments that they had planned previously. The two groups were researching how heat has an effect on exercise using the heat chamber facilities (it was 30 degrees in the chamber with a high level of humidity!). The first group completed 3km cycles, one in the heat chamber and one outside the chamber at room temperature. The second group completed both planks and cycling sprints in the same conditions. The experiment was to establish whether heat does actually have an effect on the intensity of our exercise or on any other variables. We had to record results such as heart rate, oxygen saturation and body temperature, ready to analyse them in our next sessions. It was a very tiring day, but a very educational day. We also feel that this has given us a better understanding of what it is like to study Sports Science and prepared us for possibly studying this course in the future. Thank you to Miss Abbott for organising these visits and giving us new experiences.
