Business and Economics Trip
Georgia in 10G and Lauren in 10V sent this report:
On Wednesday, 9 October, Business Studies and Economics students visited a Mini Factory and Bicester Village. The Mini Factory had lots of technology used to make the cars. We learnt lots of facts about the factory such as: £750,000,000 spent on the equipment; the newest colours released were Indian Red and Midnight Blue; only six people working in the production factory at one time, as it was technology driven and 92% of the whole car was made by a robot. Bicester Village is a shopping area, which targets products at the more affluent in society. There were many well-known brands that interested us including Gucci and Michael Kors, which we all enjoyed having a good look at. Before going back to the hotel, we went to Pizza Express and enjoyed lots of doughballs and a choice of pizza.
The next day we went to Cadbury’s World and an Amazon Factory. Cadbury’s World offered us a talk about the use of ICT in the workplace. We then took part in the full experience of Cadbury’s World and were informed about the history of Cadbury and how it developed as a business. We were given three free chocolate bars to eat as we went around the site and then bought lots of chocolate in the gift shop at the end, which we all enjoyed on the journey back. Afterwards, we made our way to an Amazon Factory where we had a very interesting tour which focused on; how the business runs, how the packages are sorted and how the machinery helps the employees in their day-to-day life. The company shared the benefits of working at Amazon such as health care, dental care, laser eye surgery and support towards University costs. Amazon seems like a great environment to work in as everyone appears to help one another.
After the two eventful days, we all felt we had learnt a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was incredibly informing and exciting and would recommend this trip to other business students in the future.
