Year 5 Familiarisation Workshop - Languages
Mrs Puerto-Garcia sent this report:
On Tuesday, 24 September, the French department welcomed 30 primary school students for a MFL workshop based around the European day of Languages. Miss Baudean and I were amazed by the confidence and enthusiasm of all the students who took part. During our workshop, we looked at idioms and how they differ from one language to another, focusing on the meaning of some very common idioms in English and comparing the differences between English and French. Students learnt, for instance, that the French do not “throw money down the drain” but instead they “jettent l’argent par les fenêtres” (“throw it out of the window”)! Pupils who attended engaged really well to all of the activities and we could tell we had some very promising, talented linguists.
