Year 11 Geography Fieldwork Trip to Leysdown
Phoebe in 11S sent this report:
On Friday, 20 September, Year 11 Geography students went to Leysdown-on-sea to prepare for their paper three examination on fieldwork.
We split the coast into four zones to evaluate the effectiveness of the coastal management. We did this by measuring and categorising the rocks to see if attrition and abrasion were occurring and assessing the aesthetic quality and effectiveness of the different hard engineering schemes. We measured the distance between the top of the groynes to the sand to see if they were effectively building up the beach by stopping longshore drift. Field sketches were drawn and photos annotated in order to help us remember what we saw.
After completing the first three zones, we had a lunch break and managed to explore the town and enjoy fish and chips with the sea view before finishing off our investigations.
Overall, this was great revision for our coasts topic that we first studied in Year 9 and a day at the beach with sunny weather is always a bonus!
